Top Accountancy Conference Comes to Dundee

16th April 2009

As the state of the world’s financial markets continues to dominate news headlines, delegates at this year’s British Accounting Association’s annual conference are set to have plenty to discuss when they gather at the University of Dundee this month.

Bonus payments, executive salaries and some of the factors which fed into the credit crunch will all feature in the series of debates and papers being presented at the conference, which takes place from April 21st to 23rd, in the Dalhousie Building at the University.

More than 300 delegates from across the UK and overseas will attend the event, one of the largest gatherings of its kind in Europe.

“Obviously there is heightened interest in many of the things happening across the world of finance so there will be plenty to debate at this year’s conference,” remarked Professor Christine Helliar, Dean of the School of Accounting & Finance at Dundee, and vice-chair of the British Accounting Association.

“We have delegates coming from all over the world and I am sure that they will contribute to some great debates and discussions.”

Professor Helliar also noted that the conference was a chance for Dundee to shine.

“We wanted to show off the University and the city to all the members of the Association,” said Professor Helliar, who assumes the position of chair of the Association next year. “The redevelopment of the campus has helped create a real sense of pride in the University and the Dalhousie Building is a fantastic venue in which to host our visitors.”

Dundee is set to host another international accounting conference later in the year, with the 7th conference of the European Network for
Research in Organisational & Accounting Change (ENROAC) taking place at the West Park Conference Centre in June.

It is attracting delegates from most of Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

ENROAC was jointly formed by Professor John Burns, Professor of Management and Accountancy at Dundee in 1999 and this year sees the 10th anniversary of this global Network.
